A Different Experience

Two years ago, after I had ordered the Andes upholstered bed, I was tempted to cancel the order based on these reviews. When my order date was rescheduled to be delayed by two weeks, I was nervous, but the bed arrived on time and has been fine since. I thought I had ordered the lightest shade of grey, but the second lightest has been okay. I have appreciated the performance velvet which my cats cannot scratch. Since I had bought a fixer-upper needing many upgrades, I bought 3 sconces and 3 ceiling lights on sale from the Sculptural collection as temporary inexpensive lighting to replace the plastic lighting the home came with. The fixtures arrived on time, were easy to install and I have enjoyed them since. When one of the shades was too large, I returned it to the store and was able to get replacements quickly and with no hassle. I like that West Elm is one of the only places which offers modern lighting in oil-rubbed bronze, which is one of the metals I repeat throughout the house. I also like the option of changing the look of the fixtures by replacing the shades, and I intend to switch the shades of the living room sconces with that of my hall light today. I have bought a table and floor lamp since which again were on time and have been fine. In addition to the bed and lighting, I purchased on sale a drop-in medicine cabinet as well as a set of towel bars which again arrived on time. They sat in my living room between February and November while I waited for my contractor to show up to complete my bathroom remodel. They towel bars have been fine, but it turned out that the medicine cabinet would not fit between the studs due to some older piping, so I went back to my store to explain the situation. They were willing months after the original purchase, based on my order history, to refund the medicine cabinet, but I opted for store credit which I used to order the Penn chair and ottoman in Dune distressed velvet. The chair was easy to assemble, the color a perfect contrast to my slate blue re-upholstered English arm sofa, went well with my walls painted in BM Calm and is comfortable to sit in. I like that the distressed velvet contrasts with the velvet of the sofa in texture, and which, though one can see the weave in the velvet, again is of no interest to my clawing cats, except for when their nails get too long, in which case, they take a trip to the nail clipper's. I also ordered the Anton burnt wood night stand which I use as a console under my Frame TV that hangs on one side of my fireplace. Again, it arrived on time, was easy to assemble, matches a family heirloom table in a similar tone which is on the opposite side of my fireplace, and has maintained its quality. Most recently, I ordered a drink table, which arrived within the week, but turned out not to be a good match for my colors. I was able to easily exchange it for the Silhouette table which is substantial and looks elegant next to my Penn chair. On the same purchase, I ordered he Ana reversible rug and a Rounded lidded hamper. Both arrived within a week. I had been searching for years for a rug, and I appreciate fact that I could find one that I liked at a reasonable price for my living room, which is reversible and can be used in one other bedroom should I find a rug I like better. The only issue with the rug is that it needs a gentler, brushless setting on the vacuum, which my vacuum doesn't have . I use a carpet sweeper instead, as I am unsure if my robot vacuum will work with the fringe. As to the Rounded, lidded hamper, I had to return it because, though I emphasized that I wanted the round hamper, the associate ordered a square one (the entire collection is confusingly named "rounded") for me. When I returned it to the store, a different associate, during the busy holiday season, got on the phone for almost an hour to locate the one I wanted in another store in another state, which was on clearance (still boxed) there and which I got for about $40. it arrived quickly as well. The only issue with the hamper is that once a few items of clothing are dropped into the hamper, the liner slips down. My experiences have been with the Mill Valley location of the store, which is a 45-minute distance from my home, but where I have found the service to be excellent. I do wish that the company allowed reviews on their website to facilitate online shopping. I am disappointed to see recent low reviews here, since I had assumed the furniture delays I was originally worried about were post-Covid supply-chain related. I enjoy visiting the store and would purchase again based on my experiences.

Complete Lack of Quality Control

The switching on the sheets and pillowcases I received is absolutely horrible. It is extremely disappointing given how much these sheets cost and the complete lack of quality control. The fabric does feel nice and I would honestly prefer to exchange them in hopes that what I received was a one-off set, but I don’t feel like I could trust that they would send me a quality replacement. If these sheets weren’t so expensive I would maybe be able to overlook the defects, but for the price they charge this is inexcusable.

Good products- poor service at Yonge st location

I got two black night stands with rattan front drawers. The product was delivered to my home as promised and looks fantastic a couple years later. Same for a rug I ordered, reasonably priced and timeless pattern. One thing really bothers me though, in the Toronto Yonge store you can’t get any service, staff is busy with their computers at the back desk and couldn’t care less to really help. The service in the other Toronto store is top notch, so avoid the Yonge store.

Purchased Gemini 6-Drawer Dresser

Purchased Gemini 6-Drawer Dresser. It smells so strong and unpleasant. It’s been several days now and the odour doesn’t go away. Update - a month later - still smells nasty and makes all clothes smells bad.

Price misrepresentation

Went to buy a 8 x10 rug that I had previously seen. The rug is beautiful and with a price tag of 1499$ CDN (full price). I was ready to buy it but the rug was not available in store and would need to be ordered which I was ok with and ok with the estimated delivery time. However, when I inquired about having it delivered to my house I was told the cost would be around 250$. So alternatively they offered to ship it to the store for pick up which I was ok with. However, there was still a shipping cost of 100$ (probably plus taxes) applicable. This is the part i fell taken for granted and abused as a customer. With the mandatory shipping cost this would have increased the price accordingly (1,599$). Since there is no way for me to get it for the listed price i concluded the store is misrepresenting the actual cost. They should have put the price to 1,599$ or indicate on their pricing it is 1,499 + shipping cost to the store. It is really cheating their customer and taking them for a ride. So I left and did not purchase it even though I loved it.
