I have been a patient of OneMedical for seven (7) years now and will say that IMHO, this practice has policies that every practice should adopt For instance, their appointments start and end on time. This can be a little limiting when you're at a visit, but in the long run, it beats waiting hours for your appointment because others take longer than expected and the doctors simply don't value your time. The practice is available 24/7; so if for instance you have a problem, you can call, and yes, a human will come to the phone; if your provider is not available, they will connect you with another provider either in person or virtually, very quickly. I did have an emergency once and was able to speak on the phone to another provider who solved the problem for me equally quickly. Third, there is respect for the patient, ie dr and patient are all on a first name basis, so I (a senior who was taught to respect my elders) do not have to deal with the disrespect of a person half my age talking down to me, which, is something I personally find to be inconsiderate. Doctors today should be taught to be respectful to patients, especially seniors who come from a different era when respect was the norm. Last and definitely not least, I'm delighted with my primary care physician, Dr. Elizabeth Haskins, who is as knowledgeable as she is kind, compassionate and a good listener. If she cannot meet my need directly due to bureaucratic limitations placed on her (and everyone else), she will recommend a specialist who can. There is an annual fee to join this practice, but it is worth every penny. I highly recommend OneMedical!

Has always been available when I needed medical help. Helped me get qualified for Paxlovid when my other provider couldn't see me until the next day. Used them for an urgent care question when out of town and found an office 2000 miles from home. OneMedical personnel are some of the nicest, smartest medical personnel I've met for wellness care.

It's always a calming feeling to enter One Medical. The front desk staff are always friendly and helpful. The facility is always clean and welcoming. My Phlebotomy Technician, Ms . Daziah is the BEST! She’s gentle, pleasant, with a humorous vibrant spirit. She is definitely the reason why I don’t mine having my blood drawn. I truly hope that One Medical realizes how valuable she is.

Amazing service. First time I've felt *really* cared for by a healthcare provider. 1) never had to wait for an appointment (have gone 6-7 times, member for a year) 2) telemedicine is straightforward - they got my antibiotics quickly for strep without making me go in 3) the biggest win is doctors actually spend time with you. when they don't have to see a quota of patients per day, they can actually care about your wellbeing and ask you questions proactively. Never had a physical take 1+ hour before just chatting about my health (33, 165lbs, healthy male, some family medical history)

This is a combined review of my experience with One Medical since 2015, and that of colleagues at Google, and other friends. One Medical is a network of Primary Care Physician offices, with some additional services provided onsite. They're good at certain things, and mediocre or bad at others. What their membership fee ($200/yr) gets you, is the use of their online health records, messaging and appointment scheduling system. That's it. This should be very clear, but it's not. Everything else, even "wellness" visits (25-minute annual physicals, which are of dubious value) - you or your insurance pays for. When the insurance pays, most people are blissfully unaware of how much One Medical billed the insurance. Prices are downright ridiculous - something on the order of $500 for a PCP to look at your elbow pain for 10 minutes. Labs and imaging are outsourced to other providers (LabCorp, Quest, others), and you or your insurance pays for them. One Medical does offer blood draws (which are sent to LabCorp or Quest) and immunizations onsite. Their PCPs are most often RNs, DOs, and sometimes MDs. Facilities are clean and staff is nice. Phlebotomists have been skilled and gentle. Appointments do start on time. As to how quick it is to get an appointment, that varies. In the Bay Area, some of the PCPs are booked for a couple weeks, others are typically be available next day or the day after, if you're willing to drive a bit to a different office. For those with low income, One Medical provides financial assistance that can discount the cost of the membership, and that of onsite services billed by One Medical (but obviously not those billed by labs, imaging, or specialists). To sum up, One Medical is: * good if your company contracts with them and subsidizes everything * your insurance pays for everything without deductibles or copays (or you've met the deductible) * you're young and/or healthy and your healthcare needs are minimal (routine visits, immunizations) * you qualify for financial assistance (though in that case you'd also qualify for Medicaid, which One Medical does NOT contract with!) One Medical may not be the best choice if * you'd have to pay out of pocket, or your insurance wouldn't cover One Medical visits * you're older or have health problems * you mostly need specialists * you want labs (in that case, direct-to-consumer services are much more cost effective - WalkInLab, PrivateMdLabs, Ulta and don't require any "referral") * you want more comprehensive physical exams than the 25-minute annual wellness visits (though note that the usefulness of annual physical exams is disputed by medical professionals, and "executive" health checkups may be overkill) One Medical is terrible at cost transparency - you're never told the cost of visits or procedures in advance. Since most people use insurance, they don't care about this.
